The Mix knob in Taupe has nothing in common with the regular dry/wet knob found in most plugins. Instead, it allows you to adjust the desired degree of “tape coloration” – from SOURCE (no tape signal, just the preamp input signal) to TAPE (all tape signal) – by mixing the tonal characteristics of the unit’s circuitry with or without a tape component. Just press the tape and you’ll get the original compression and harmonic distortion just as it was on the original machines. The resulting effect can be as subtle as 0.5 dB of soft compression, or as much as 6 dB of instant clipping. Transient processes will be softly smoothed out, strengthened, almost stretched, as only high-quality devices can do. At least until now!
